Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23

The ABC comedy Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 is not your typical network sitcom. With its single camera format, lack of laugh track and morally gray characters, the series initially appears to be more suited for cable. Title character Chloe, for instance, is an unscrupulous female intent on scamming her way through life while best friend James Van Der Beek is the prototypical self-centered celebrity. Even good-natured roommate June is not above the shenanigans as Chloe rubs off on her just as much as the opposite holds true. Actress Krysten Ritter, however, portrays Chloe with such wide-eyed innocence and Van Der Beek with such charm that Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 is not as atypical after all. Yes, the comedy may be more cutting-edge and the storylines less conventional, but the show ultimately contains the same amount of heart as any other network sitcom.
