New
Lost online experience launched
ABC has
launched a new online component, LOSTscape,
to its Thursday night drama Lost, which returns this Thursday,
April 24th, at 10pm. According to the official press release, “Participants
will instantly be immersed in the setting of the island and its immediate
surroundings, discovering and collecting objects along the way. As visitors
scroll across the LOSTscape, they’ll encounter various items,
some obvious, some not. Most items trigger a popup window containing
a brief video clip from the episode in which they first appeared, along
with textual, story-related information about it. There are 34 items
to be found, but once fans have identified seven, they’ll be invited
to enter for a chance to win a trip to Comic-Con for themselves and
a friend.”
Lost
has continually expanded throughout its network run onto the World Wide
Web with both the Lost:
Missing Pieces webisodes and such ARGs as The
Lost Experience, which explained in greater detail
the purpose and mission of the DHARMA Initiative, and the recent Find
815. Although the latter was not “official”
in the sense that executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse
were only minimally involved, the storyline dovetailed nicely into the
first half of the current season, offering an explanation as to why
salvage vessel Christiane I was in the Sunda Trench when it stumbled
upon the “wreckage” of Oceanic 815 as well as alluding to
Charles Widmore’s fascination with the Black Rock. (Lindelof and
Cuse said during a teleconference with the media last week that they
enjoyed Find 815 and hope to do a similar ARG next season.) While LOSTscape
offers little new information, it’s still a fun primer for beginners
and serves as a nice refresher for the rest of us. And the chance to
win tickets to the Lost panel at this year’s San Diego
Comic Con is an obvious bonus (for details on the contest, go here).
