Revenge

The AMC drama Revenge can best be described as a modern day adaptation of the classic Alexandre Dumas novel The Count of Monte Cristo. Like Edmond Dantès, David Clarke is framed by a group of conspirators for a crime he did not commit. Whereas Edmond Dantès eventually escaped from prison, discovered a hidden treasurer and returned to France to enact vengeance on those who wronged him, it is David Clarke’s daughter that is intent with seeking revenge on behalf of her now deceased father. Armed with a fortune of her own, she invades the rich playground of Southampton under the fictitious name of Emily Thorne and unleashes a web of entrapment against her sworn enemies. Revenge also contains the strains of a finely crafted soap opera to go alongside its literary roots, however, making the drama the perfect amalgamation of old and new narrative styles that is highly addictive as well as entertaining.
