Sherlock

The British drama Sherlock transplants the legendary Baker Street detective into modern day London while remaining faithful to the original narratives of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The creators of Sherlock have been able to avoid the pitfalls that a contemporary retelling of such classic sagas as A Study in Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles and A Scandal in Bohemia inevitably contain through the use of finally crafted storylines that not only reflect the writings of Doyle but add enough twists to keep the plots fresh and entertaining. Benedict Cumberbatch, meanwhile, portrays Sherlock Holmes with a dash of bravado, ego and borderline sociopathic tendencies, while the John Watson of Martin Freeman becomes a more integral partner than previous adaptations despite remaining the source of humor and wit. With all of these ingredients expertly combined, the resulting Sherlock is indeed “elementary.”
